Jenn Jones, BSc Owner/Operator

Jenn is the bones of Furry Friends and with her 25+ years of experience you can expect exceptional customer service and pet care. Jenn’s whole background has been in animal husbandry in some form or another.

From a young age, Jenn was bringing home sick or injured animals, and sometimes a snake or two just to freak her mom out! Jenn has always had an affinity for animals and hence has worked with many different animals throughout her entire life. Jenn lived on a farm, raising cows, chickens, pigs, sheep, goats, ducks, rabbits, dogs, cats – you name it, she had it! She also lived on a working cattle ranch in the Interior of BC, this was one of her dream jobs, it was amazing working with the cattle and riding the thousands of acres of rangeland. After ranching, Jenn decided to pursue university, graduating with a Bachelor in Science, specializing in Evolution and Ecology. While attending SFU, Jenn worked at three different vet clinics on the North Shore, with her last position as Hospital Manager. In 2000, Jenn decided it was high time to strike out on her own, creating Furry Friends & More Pet Services. It just seemed like a natural fit for her, she had been taking care of animals for her whole life. Jenn has never looked back and today Furry Friends & More is now Furry Friends & Company.

Furry Friends & Co. strives to give back to the community we live in not only by donating money to charities (human and animal), and donating many hours of our time volunteering for different organizations, but also giving women and men living on the North Shore the chance to earn a decent, living wage.

Furry Friends may have changed services throughout the years but one thing has always remained the same: exceptional pet care service…always.

I am a Certified Professional Dog Walker and graduate of the International Academy for Canine Trainers, committed to keeping the dogs in my care safe and having a great time.

I’m originally from the corporate world but have been working as a dog walker and pet sitter since 2010 as animals and nature are my true passions. 🙂 I enjoy both through dog walking and pet sitting on the North Shore!

I put clients first and am well known for being trustworthy and reliable with the care of other people’s pets.
When not helping clients to enjoy easier lives with their canine companions, I enjoy exploring forests and beaches, where I will happily play with any available dog.

When Jenn is away, I am the “bones” of the company!

I knew I wanted to make a big change in my career/life once my son started kindergarten and it had to involve dogs. I would take my Labrador Bella to Inter River weekly and see professional dog walkers and think to myself “I WANT to do that!!”

I started with Furry Friends in September of 2018 and have never looked back!

I have taken and continue to take classes and/or courses to ensure I am up to date with dog behaviour and I love learning about the science behind why our dogs do and act as they do!

My love of animals started from a young age. I remember thinking I could take our family Doberman out for a walk when I was in Kindergarten. She dragged me a few yards before I realized I was no match for her size and thankfully my parents were very forgiving!

I met Jenn over 20 years ago around the time of my first child. She casually mentioned something about coming to work with her way back then but I wasn’t quite ready to leave a Supervisor job which I had been at for 17+ years.

Throughout the years I would bump into Jenn but it wasn’t until I finished having kids and long after I left my job that I finally wanted to give dog walking a try. I had been walking two very large dogs for years, so why not do this for work!

I’ve been with Furry Friends now for over 4 1/2 years but you may have seen me around the Lynn Valley area either backpacking my kids or pushing the stroller while having my two very large red Standard Poodles on either side of me. Most days we would walk 10+ km on the trails in the Lynn Valley area. And I loved every minute of it!

When not walking other people’s dogs or my own, you can often find me planning my next long distance hike in one of the various mountain ranges around BC or a bit further south. And when I’m all tired out, into the garden I will go for some much needed rest and relaxation.

Mother Nature is my happy place and I love seeing the dogs exploring in all the beauty out there!

I am an animal lover and indulge my love for cats by caring for other people’s cats with Furry Friends. I am certified in pet first aid and am in-tune with the quirkiness of cats after years of living in a multi-cat household.

I joined Furry Friends over 15 years ago after hiring them to look after my own cats. I was so impressed with the quality of their service I decided to work with them!

After navigating a quarter-life crisis (lol) and seeking reprieve from the realms of The Car Service Industry and Graphic Design, I stumbled into the enchanting world of Dog Hiking thanks to my own Furry Friend Puft (puppy at the time) and owner Jenn who welcomed me into her wonderful company.

Armed with 25 years of mountaineering experience (from Glacier Traversing, Ice and Rock Climbing, Skiing/Telemark, Outdoor Survival Studies, and weekends exploring the mountains of our beautiful Province in all seasons), I have now found solace in reconnecting with nature and, this time, sharing the adventures with our “Furry Friends”.

It’s a fulfilling occupation that combines my passion for the great outdoors with the joy of canine camaraderie, creating a harmonious blend of continued mountain exploration and doggy companionship that brings boundless happiness to my Life.

Melissa

My passion for dogs inspired me to create this new career path for myself. The opportunity to spend my days outdoors hiking in the forest has proven to be a perfect match for me – body, mind and soul!

The challenge of capturing spectacular action shots of my pups while we’re out conquering the trails has also engaged my life long love affair with photography.

I’ve been co-creating my best life with my furry friends since May 2022.

I have always had a deep love for animals and the great outdoors.

Caring for pets is my passion and has never stopped being a part of my life. That’s why joining Jenn’s team here at Furry Friends has felt like a dream come true! Not only does it give me the chance to work and take care of our furry friends but also the chance to explore some of the most beautiful trails here on the north shore alongside them. I get to share my love of the outdoors and walking with your pets one wagging tail at a time!

Lisa

Born & raised in Vancouver, mother of 3 grown kids and recently a new grandma, I have spent the past 30+ years in North Vancouver, in Lynn Valley and now residing in the Parkgate area.

Forever restless, I’m always looking for variety and adventure. I’ve never been content to do the 9 to 5 grind sitting at a desk. Travelling is one of my passions – I love to experience new cultures and experiences. My most recent travels took me to Australia, where I volunteered in 2 animal rescue centers, bottle feeding baby Wombats, Kangaroos & Possums (and side stepping the venomous snakes!) In Mexico, I volunteered at 2 dog/cat rescue shelters as a dog walker and doing general shelter maintenance, in addition to pet sitting in many small towns throughout the country.

We are so incredibly fortunate to live on the North Shore, with its abundance of amazing hiking trails from Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay and beyond. For me, it is a gift to be able to combine the beauty of the forest with my love for dogs to satisfy my restless soul every day and fill my heart with doggy love (and let’s not forget about the kitties, too!). Animals make life complete!
